The Story

Through the centuries the Skottowes have always been travellers, entrepreneurs and craftsmen. In keeping with these family traditions Simon, after completing his studies at Harrow College of Art gaining a B.A. (Hons.) degree in fashion design in 1988, moved from his home in London to Italy´s design capital, Milan.

There, he was able to develop his skills in menswear and tailoring working for both a renowned design studio with large international clients, as well as a circle of private customers for bespoke pieces.
His innate sense of good taste in all aspects of life was given full rein. Not just clothes but interior design, furniture, dining and travelling. All aspects of what is called today "Lifestyle". While in Milan he worked with one of Italy´s most respected interior designers, Gavino Falchi, assisting in a number of projects including those for Driade and Cassina.
“It was a wonderful experience, the shopping, the markets, the quality of everything, and of course the art. Italy is so jam packed with fabulous towns and cities, it was quite overwhelming.”
He spent the last two years in Milan as the cutter responsible for Katherine Hamnett London men’s and women’s tailoring.
In 1998 he was head hunted by a major U.K. tailoring company, Elite Clothing Ltd, and invited to become the Design Director of their Hungarian production company. So he packed his bags again and spent three years working for Elite Ruhagyar in Budapest.
“Working for a company with five factories and 1,700 employees was certainly a new experience, not to mention learning Hungarian. But it was a very interesting and challenging time."
Frustrated with the limitations of mass production and mass market he decided to set up his own business in 2001 and concentrate exclusively on bespoke hand tailoring. The company now has a clientele covering most of Europe but remains true to the meaning of bespoke. All the tailoring is done in-house and all the cutting and fitting is done by Simon himself.
